Famous Basque
Painters
There are a lot of famous painters
in Biscay. The most important one is Carmelo Garcia Barrena. He was born in
Bilbao on 1st of July 1926
and died on 24th of July
2000. His painting style is very abstract. His main works are the “Brujas”,
“Escena de Carnaval” and “Flores sobre la mesa”.
Musicians
In music we have Fernado Velázquez
and he composed the music for the films “Lo imposible” (inspired in the tsunami
of 2000), “El orfanato” and “Los ojos de Laura”. He was born in Getxo in 1978.
He won the “El ojo critico” award, very important in classical music.
Actors-Actresses
Marivi Bilbao is an actress who was
born in Bilbao 22nd of
January 1930. Her most famous character is Marisa Benito in “Aqui no hay quien
viva”.
Carlos Sobera is an actor and
presenter. He was born in Barakaldo on
11th of Agust 1960. His famous film is “London street”
Dance
Lucia Lacarra was born in Zumaia in
1975, she is a ballet dancer. She is the best dancer in Biscay and she has
danced for the Opera of Munich. She danced for the Ballet National de Roland
Petit and in San Francisco.
Writers
In poetry we have Blas the Otero. He
was born in Bilbao 15th of March 1916. He wrote a lot of carols and
a poem collection “Redoble de conciencia”
In literature we also have Rosa
Diez. She was born in Sodupe on 27th
of May 1952. She wrote the book “Merece la pena” and won the “Planeta” award.
Now she is a politician.
